Scientists Discover ‘Dark Oxygen’ Made On Deep-Sea Floor Without Light

Previous assumptions about this life-supporting gas, after all, hold that it’s usually produced by photosynthetic organisms such as plants and algae. But here the scientists were, looking at data from their deep-sea landers that suggested oxygen had been generated on the dark ocean floor, where light doesn’t penetrate.
