Floating Offshore Wind
In areas with clean energy targets, the onshore wind resource is generally being harvested and the fixed offshore is rapidly approaching saturation as well, leaving floating offshore the only remaining renewable resource to tap in many geographies.
Currently, offshore wind farms predominantly use fixed-bottom turbines anchored to theseabed, utilizing conventional materials adopted from onshore wind and oil and gas (O&G) industries, generally suitable for water depths of up to 50 meters. Floating offshore wind (FOW) features turbines affixed to a floating base up to 1,000 meters or more above theseabed, anchored by extended cables, with underwater cables for transmission.
